mythology
According to a legend, once Goddess Lakshmi went on a journey on the new moon night of Kartik month, but there was darkness in the world. In such a situation, Goddess Lakshmi lost her way. After this, they decided to spend the night in the world of death and return to Vaikuntha Dham in the morning, but Mother found the door of every house closed. A door was open.
A lamp was burning at that door. On this Goddess Lakshmi went towards the light of the lamp. Going there, Mother Lakshmi saw that an elderly woman was working. After this Goddess Lakshmi told him that she needed a place to stay for the night. Then the elderly woman gave shelter to the mother in her house and provided a bed. After this she got busy with her work. While working, the elderly woman got injured. When she woke up in the morning, she saw that the guest had gone, but her house had turned into a palace.
Diamonds, jewelery and wealth were kept all around, then the elderly woman came to know that the guest who had come to her house at night was none other than Goddess Lakshmi herself. Since then, the tradition of lighting lamps and keeping the house open on the new moon night of Kartik month started. On this night people open the doors of their houses and wait for the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi.
