Gurugram: Have you ever heard of a ‘bride’ who runs away with the groom’s house, jewelery and cash after marriage? It seems like a movie story, but it is reality! A woman named Kajal, a resident of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, married many men, and every time after a few days of marriage, she ran away from home with cash and jewelery worth lakhs. This swindler, who was dodging the police for a year, has finally been arrested from Gurugram.
Who is ‘fake bride’ Kajal and how was she running the marriage fraud game?
According to Rajasthan Police, this whole matter came to light in May 2024 when the sons of Tarachand Jat of Sikar district were married to Kajal and her sister Tamanna. This marriage was brokered by Kajal’s father Bhagat Singh, who extorted Rs 11 lakh from Tarachand on the pretext of marriage preparations. The wedding took place on May 21, but just two days later, Kajal, her sister, mother Saroj Devi and father absconded with jewellery, clothes and cash.
How did the police reach ‘Kajal Dulhan’?
After the complaint, Sikar police arrested Bhagat Singh and his wife in December 2024. During interrogation, it was revealed that this family runs a ‘fake marriage gang’, that is, they first show the marriage relation to some rich family, then run away with lakhs of rupees and jewelery in the name of marriage. Tamanna and Suraj were also caught by the police, but Kajal remained absconding.
Kajal began living in hiding in Jaipur and Mathura for several months, and later moved into a rented house in Gurugram’s Saraswati Enclave. Rajasthan Police received information from an informer and Kajal was arrested with the help of Gurugram Police on Thursday.
How did this network of marriage fraud work?

Father Bhagat Singh was the mastermind of the entire operation. The brides would stay with the groom’s family for two-three days, so as to win everyone’s trust, then on some pretext or the other they would disappear with the house and jewellery. According to ASI Puranmal, this gang has cheated many families till now and the police is now searching for their other associates.
Will the game of ‘fake marriage gang’ end?
After the arrest of Kajal, the police hope that the whole truth about this gang will come to light. But the question is – will the other members of this network also be caught, or has a new ‘bride’ set out to cheat another groom?
