The IPL 2026 is still some time away from beginning, and there are already rumours of several movements in different franchises. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) would look to make some major changes in their franchise, as they would look to improve on their seventh-place finish in 2025. While there are several rumours of players leaving the franchise, they have made a valuable star addition to their ranks.
New Zealand legend Kane Williamson has joined the franchise ahead of the IPL 2026, as he is set to return to the tournament after two years.
According to a report by The Times of India, LSG have signed Kane Williamson as a new strategic advisor ahead of the IPL 2026. This is just an addition to the LSG backroom staff, as the Kiwi legend has not joined the franchise as a player.
Kane Williamson was last part of the IPL as a player in 2024, when he played for Gujarat Titans. He went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
“Kane’s strategic thinking and leadership played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s performances in the World Cup and Champions Trophy. He has had an impeccable record as an individual, as a human being and as a captain,” LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka told The Times of India
“I have always been impressed by his leadership qualities, calm demeanour and his ability to inspire players. After I had a meeting with him in London, Kane and head coach Justin Langer met and then Kane and Rishabh Pant had a long discussion. Then we all came to the conclusion that this is a very good choice,” he added.
LSG Appoint New Spin Bowling Coach
LSG have made another massive change in their backroom staff. Former England star Carl Crowe joins the franchise as the new spin-bowling coach. He was previously appointed with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Previously LSG had made another appointment from KKR, when they appointed Bharat Arun as the bowling coach, replacing Zaheer Khan. Justin Langer will continue as the head coach of the franchise.
