The film is expected to go on floors in 2027, with Samji likely to complete the writing process shortly. How Farhad Samji Became Associated With Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.
Recalling how he became part of the original film, Samji had previously spoken about receiving a late-night call from composer Anu Malik. The call came around 10 PM, when Malik asked him to prepare a mukhda, or opening verse, for a music session scheduled for the following day with director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Samji was reportedly told that Shah Rukh Khan was being considered for the lead role. The song needed to capture the character’s tapori language while also complementing the actor’s established screen image.
Rajkumar Hirani Wants The Right Script For Munna Bhai 3
Rajkumar Hirani has previously spoken about the possibility of making another film. In a conversation with Variety India, the filmmaker reiterated that the project was in development but maintained that he did not want to make a sequel simply for the sake of continuing the franchise.
Hirani has consistently emphasised the importance of getting the screenplay right before taking the project forward. His decision to bring Farhad Samji on board reportedly comes from the need for a fresh voice to develop the story. Samji has also spoken about looking up to Hirani as an idol and receiving encouragement from the filmmaker during his early days. Their professional association makes his involvement in the upcoming sequel particularly interesting.
While the latest development brings renewed hope for the third instalment, further details about the cast, storyline and production schedule are yet to be officially announced. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi’s return as Munna and Circuit will undoubtedly be among the biggest talking points as the project progresses.
