PV Sindhu Ends 4-Year Wait, Qualifies For BWF World Tour Finals 2026

PV Sindhu continued her incredible resurgence in 2026, where she found a second wind in her career and sealed a place in the 2026 BWF World Tour Finals, which is the season-ending tournament.

This year, it will take place in China’s Hangzhou at the Olympic Sports Expo Center from December 9-13.

The Indian sporting legend confirmed her place in the event on the back of her victory in the 2026 Hylo Open last week. This will mark the first time in four years that Sindhu will play the competition. She last played the tournament in 2021 when she finished as runner-up. The two-time Olympic medalist had qualified in 2022 but withdrew due to an injury. She failed to qualify in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Previously, the five-time world championship medalist featured in the competition in every year between 2016 and 2021. She won the gold medal in 2018. Sindhu remains the only Indian to win the title in history.

BWF World Tour Finals 2026 – Who Else Has Qualified

Sindhu is the sixth player after An Se Young, Akane Yamaguchi, Wang Zhi Yi, and Chen Yu Fe to qualify for the tournament. For those unversed, a total of eight players participate in the tournament. The players that are in the top eight of the ‘race to the finals’ ranking at the end of the season qualify. Performances in the BWF World Tour tournaments over the years are considered. A maximum of two players from each member/association in a category can qualify.

PV Sindhu’s Remarkable 2026

Before winning the Hylo Open (BWF Super 500 event), Sindhu also sealed the 2026 Japan Open title (BWF Super 750 event) while finishing runner-up in the French Open (BWF Super 750 event). Before this year, Sindhu had not played the final of any Super 500 or above event since 2024, while her last victory at this level was in 2022.

Meanwhile, the triumph at the Japan Open marked the first instance of her or any Indian winning a BWF Super 750 level title.
