Actress Gul Panag is embarking on a more structured fitness journey as she approaches her 48th birthday, bringing in professional guidance after more than three decades of largely managing her workouts independently.
The actress recently shared her decision on Instagram, explaining that while she has maintained fitness, strength and discipline over the years, she remains curious about how much more her body can achieve with expert supervision.
“I’ve been training for over three decades. Mostly on my own. And I think it shows. A little,” Gul wrote alongside a series of pictures showcasing her fitness.
She said there was a difference between being fit and reaching one’s full physical potential, adding that managing every aspect of fitness independently could sometimes become a limitation.
Gul recalled receiving guidance from nutritionist Pooja Makhija in 2007 and a few years later, when she was navigating changes in her body during her thirties. She also credited fitness professional Deepa Vaswani with helping her rethink and rebuild her strength-training routine in her mid-forties, while nutritionist Shalvi Sharma had more recently offered advice.
However, she said she had never previously committed to having someone oversee the entire process, including training, nutrition, recovery, stretching, progression and accountability.
Her new arrangement involves trainer Shuru, with regular check-ins and a more organised approach to exercise and nutrition. Gul jokingly noted that the accountability would apparently involve being checked on twice a day.
Clarifying that she was not seeking a dramatic physical transformation, the actress described the initiative as an experiment to discover what she might have been missing despite years of consistent training.
“After three decades of largely being my own boss in the gym, I’ve finally decided to let someone else tell me what to do. Let’s see how that goes,” she wrote.
