Suryakumar Yadav Shares Instagram Story Amid Mumbai Indians IPL Trade Speculation

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has caught the attention of Mumbai Indians supporters after sharing a training video on his Instagram story amid speculation about a possible move ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The video showed the batter practising in the nets, with the Mumbai Indians logo appearing prominently alongside the tournament’s familiar theme music. His social media activity has prompted fresh discussions about his future with the five-time IPL champions.

The post comes amid reports linking Suryakumar with other IPL franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Speculation about his departure intensified after reports suggested that rival teams were exploring the possibility of acquiring the experienced batter. LSG were reportedly considering him as a potential leadership option, while KKR’s interest was also discussed because of his previous association with the Kolkata-based franchise.

Suryakumar’s latest Instagram story has been interpreted by supporters as a possible indication that he could continue with Mumbai Indians. The training footage reportedly came from the franchise’s main training facility at Reliance Corporate Park in Ghansoli. The presence of MI branding in the video attracted attention, particularly because it surfaced during ongoing discussions about potential player trades before the next IPL season.

The 35-year-old joined Mumbai Indians in 2018 after representing Kolkata Knight Riders. He subsequently became one of the franchise’s important batting figures and played a significant role in its title-winning campaigns in 2019 and 2020. His aggressive batting approach and ability to score through unconventional areas of the ground have made him an established performer in the T20 format.

However, his IPL 2026 campaign was disappointing compared with his previous performances. Suryakumar scored 162 runs in 15 innings at an average of 20.25, with two half-centuries, while Mumbai Indians finished ninth in the 10-team points table. His relatively modest returns contributed to discussions about the franchise’s squad plans ahead of the next season.

Despite the speculation, neither Mumbai Indians nor Suryakumar has officially confirmed any transfer or retention decision. The franchises are expected to finalise their retained and released players ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction. For now, the Instagram video has provided fresh material for supporters to discuss, but it does not establish whether Suryakumar will remain with Mumbai or move to another team.
