Virat Kohli Aims for Historic Milestones in Upcoming ODI Series Against New Zealand

New Delhi. Star batsman Virat Kohli of the Indian cricket team is on the verge of achieving two significant records as the five-match ODI series against New Zealand kicks off on November 4. The first match will take place at Auckland’s Seddon Park, where Kohli needs just 12 more runs to set a remarkable milestone.

In his ODI career, Kohli has amassed 12,988 runs over 305 innings while batting at number three. If he scores 12 runs in the upcoming match, he will become the first player in ODI history to reach 13,000 runs from that specific batting position. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting holds the second position with 12,662 runs from 365 innings. Notably, the all-time record for the most runs at a single batting position is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 15,310 runs as an opener.

Additionally, Kohli has a golden opportunity to surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in terms of the most centuries in List A cricket. Currently, both Kohli and Tendulkar have 60 centuries each in this format. If Kohli manages to score even one century during this series, he will take the lead with 61 centuries.

Kohli’s personal record against New Zealand has been impressive, having scored 1,897 runs at an average of 57 in 36 ODIs against them, which includes 7 centuries and 10 half-centuries. On New Zealand soil, he has played 11 matches, scoring 514 runs at an average of 46. The Indian team management and fans are hopeful that Kohli will achieve these milestones and create new history during this series.
