New Delhi: New Zealand have suffered a double injury setback ahead of the start of the five-match ODI series against India. Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman have been ruled out of the ODI series as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.
Ravindra is currently recovering from a right shoulder injury, and Cricket (NZC) has confirmed that he has not recovered sufficiently to field at full capacity. Chapman, on the other hand, requires two weeks of rehabilitation after recovering from a left hamstring issue.
The double injury blow has forced New Zealand to reshuffle their squad for the ODI series against the visitors. Batter Tim Seifert, who was initially included in the squad for only the fourth and fifth ODI, will now be available to play the entire series. Henry Nicholls has been added for the first three ODIs.
Dean Foxcroft has been included in New Zealand’s squad for the final two ODIs. Nicholls has been handed an ODI call-up after his impressive performances in the domestic circuit. He recently slammed a 119-run knock for Canterbury in their second Ford Trophy match against Wellington Firebirds.
Pacer Matt Henry is also in contention to play and will undergo an assessment on Monday to determine his fitness. He suffered a muscle tear during the recently concluded T20I series against India and missed the last two matches. Matt Fisher, who was initially named for the last two ODIs, will now remain with the squad for the entire series.
ODI series to get underway on November 04
The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is set to get underway on Wednesday, November 04. The series opener will be played at Eden Park in Auckland, followed by the second and third ODIs in Wellington and Hamilton, respectively.
The last two ODIs will be played in Tauranga. The Indian ODI squad has already arrived in New Zealand, and preparations are underway for the series. India won the recently concluded T20I series 3-2 and will be looking to continue their winning run in ODIs.
