Arsenal secure first league win at Anfield since 2012 with 1-0 victory

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table following a 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield, marking their first league victory at the venue since 2012. The decisive goal came in the 16th minute when Kai Havertz converted Declan Rice’s low cross.

Mikel Arteta’s side began the match strongly but spent much of the subsequent period defending their narrow lead as Liverpool applied sustained pressure seeking an equaliser. Liverpool dominated large portions of the first half and had opportunities to score. Florian Wirtz hit the crossbar with a free-kick, and Alexis Mac Allister missed a clear chance by heading over the bar.

Despite continued pressure from Liverpool after the break, they failed to create clear-cut chances and did not register a single shot on target. This was the first time since the 2002-03 season that Liverpool had failed to do so at Anfield in a Premier League match.

Arsenal remained well organised defensively, with goalkeeper David Raya and the backline effectively containing Liverpool’s attacks. The visitors also threatened to extend their lead, with Alisson denying Christos Tzolis and Martin Odegaard’s shot being deflected.

Late in the game, tensions arose as Mac Allister became involved in exchanges with Odegaard and Noni Madueke, but Liverpool was unable to break down Arsenal’s defence.

With this result, Arsenal leads the Premier League by three points, while Liverpool sits fifth, nine points behind the leaders. The victory also marked Arsenal’s 300th Premier League away win, a milestone surpassed only by Manchester United.
