INDIA Bloc Rally Ramlila Maidan Highlights: The Congress-led INDIA bloc held a mega protest rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, rollback of special intensive revision (SIR) and return to ballot paper for parliamentary and assembly polls.
The massive gathering prompted Delhi Police to ramp up security with over 4,000 security personnel deployed, over 200 CCTV cameras, intensive security checks, and traffic curbs on at least 11 roads. The latest protest is the fallout of months of protests, marches and demonstrations against the electoral roll revisions and alleged irregularities in the electoral process. The opposition on Saturday held a public impeachment of the CEC Gyanesh Kumar, a mock exercise of the constitutional provision to remove the CEC through Parliament. The BJP, on the other hand, has planned its own counter-protest march in the capital against the INDIA bloc rally and the anti-Sikh riots that broke out on November 1, 1984.
