Sanjay Dutt Vows to Make ‘Kaante 2’ in Memory of Late Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has made an emotional pledge to fulfill his late friend and filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s dream by making ‘Kaante 2’.

Dutt’s heartfelt tribute comes shortly after the news of Gupta’s demise at the age of 57 on Saturday, reportedly due to a head injury at his residence. The two had a long-standing association, collaborating on several notable films.

Gupta, known for directing crime dramas like ‘Kaante’ (2002) and ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, was a significant figure in Hindi cinema. Sanjay Dutt, who worked with Gupta on films such as ‘Aatish: Feel the Fire’, ‘Jung’, ‘Khauff’, ‘Kaante’, ‘Plan’, ‘Musafir’, ‘Zinda’, and ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, shared a deep bond with the filmmaker. In a moving post, Dutt expressed his disbelief and sorrow: “Gupts, my brother. I still cannot believe that you are gone. We have shared so much together, so many memories and so many years of friendship. You have always been family to me, and that will never change.”

He further revealed their recent discussions about ‘Kaante 2’ and promised, “I will make Kaante 2 your dream, in memory of you my brother, I will do everything for this dream of yours to come true, love you forever and always. Life will not be the same without you, brother. May God bless your soul.” ‘Kaante’, a gangster-heist drama unofficially adapted from Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’, featured a stellar cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, and Mahesh Manjrekar. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed Gupta’s passing, remembering him as a passionate and talented director. Gupta’s last directorial venture was ‘The Miranda Brothers’ (2024), and he also produced ‘Visfot’.
