Afunny comment regarding another marriage became the reason for a major family argument in the city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh only days before Karwa Chauth.
According to the news, a privately employed man joked with his second wife that he would like to marry again his first wife’s friend who came from Gorakhpur to meet them.
The joke didn’t seem pleasant for his second wife, and she got the feeling that he wants to get married again. The fight continued until it ended up in the local Mandhana police station.
Hearing the whole situation from all four sides, the police gave some advice and solved this misunderstanding. Amazingly, despite the conflict, both wives fasted during Karwa Chauth for their husbands’ good life.
How Did The Third Marriage Joke Trigger A Family Dispute?

The reason behind his marriage to a second wife was due to the agreement between him and the first wife and her relatives since they did not have any children together. Marriage with a second wife also gave birth to a daughter.
Recently, a friend of his first wife visited him; she was an unmarried woman and resided in Gorakhpur. He used to have a friendly relation with her and even make jokes about the fact that both of them were brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
But just two days before Karwa Chauth, he made some other jokes in front of his second wife saying that he would like to get married to the friend for the third time.
Four Family Members Reach Mandhana Police Station
However, the quarrel later developed into a serious argument between the couple. The husband and his first wife tried to clarify that it was just a joke and that there were no plans to marry anyone else.
Nevertheless, the second wife did not believe them, and the fight went on.
On Wednesday evening, the husband, his two wives, and his first wife’s friend came to the Mandhana police station to resolve the matter.
In-charge of the police station, Jai Narayan Singh took the statements from the four people and advised them for about two hours.
Husband Denies Planning A Third Marriage
During the discussion, the husband clarified that he had no relationship or marriage plans involving his first wife’s friend and that his statement was made only in jest.
His first wife also explained that her husband’s second marriage had taken place with her consent. She reportedly denied that there was any plan for him to marry again.
The friend from Gorakhpur also clarified her position and said she would return to her hometown.
After listening to everyone and counselling the family members, the police helped resolve the misunderstanding. All four reportedly agreed to return home.
Both Wives Observe Karwa Chauth After Police Counselling
The incident took an unexpected turn on Thursday, when both wives observed the Karwa Chauth fast for their husband’s long life.
The dispute, which had reached the police station over a joke about a third marriage, was settled after the intervention of the police.
The incident in Kanpur became an unusual family story just before Karwa Chauth, with the matter reportedly ending after the husband clarified his remark and the family members resolved their differences.
