Delhi Weather Update: Overnight Rain Brings Early Winter Chill, AQI Improves to ‘Moderate’

Delhi woke to cloudy skies after overnight rains, bringing a noticeable chill and signs of an early winter. Rain-slicked streets were reported at key locations such as Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and the Jamia Millia Islamia area.

The showers also pushed temperatures down across Delhi-NCR.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index improved from above 200 (“Poor”) on Wednesday and Thursday to 133 (“Moderate”) at 4 am Friday, ANI reported citing the CPCB data.

The IMD issued a yellow alert on October 29 for Delhi and adjoining NCR districts, forecasting rain and thunderstorms over the next 24-48 hours, followed by clearer weather in early November.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi expects widespread weather activity across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad: generally cloudy skies, one or two spells of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning, and isolated heavy rain at night.

According to the weather agency, the wet spell is likely to continue into October 30, with very light to light rain in many places and moderate showers in the morning to forenoon.

By October 31, skies are expected to become partly cloudy with no weather warnings. On November 1-2, the region is projected to shift to mainly clear skies and stable conditions, with green codes indicating fair weather across all districts.

Meanwhile, central and eastern states face intense rain from a remnant cyclonic circulation. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over north Bihar on October 30 and parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Widespread heavy to very heavy rain is expected over Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and East Uttar Pradesh. A low-to-moderate flash flood risk has been flagged until October 30 in vulnerable watersheds across Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh.

In the south, weather activity is set to increase from early November as a Bay of Bengal system approaches. Scattered showers will persist through the end of October, while fairly widespread to widespread rain is expected over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh between November 2 and 4.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are on alert for isolated very heavy rain on November 2-3, with strong gusty winds up to 60 kmph and thundersqualls over Telangana.
