LAS VEGAS (AP) – Mark Stone, captain of the Vegas Golden Knights, made a triumphant return from a lower-body injury, playing a pivotal role in his team’s 5-3 victory against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.
His performance not only marked his comeback after missing five games but also ignited a rally from a 3-0 deficit, propelling the Golden Knights to a commanding 3-0 series lead.
Stone scored a power-play goal just 19 seconds into the second period, setting the stage for the Golden Knights’ comeback. This victory places the team in a strong position as they aim for advancement in the playoffs.
Stone’s Impact on the Game
Golden Knights coach John Tortorella confirmed Stone’s return to the lineup before the game, emphasizing his importance to the team. Tortorella stated, “His talent speaks for itself, but his character and leadership, just to have him back in the room, get his voice back, is going to be huge for our team.”
Defenseman Noah Hanifin echoed these sentiments, noting that Stone’s presence revitalizes the team. “Any time he comes back, it’s like he didn’t miss a beat,” Hanifin remarked, highlighting the immediate impact of Stone’s return.
Stone’s Performance and Statistics
Stone, who suffered his injury during Game 3 of the second-round series against Anaheim, demonstrated no visible limitations during an optional skate on Saturday. His regular season performance included 28 goals and 73 points, marking his best statistical output in seven years. In the playoffs, he has already contributed four goals and five assists in ten games.
Reflecting on his time away from the ice, Stone stated, “I don’t like watching, ever. I want to play every game. It’s been an unfortunate part of my career, sitting out.” He added that being around his teammates during their successful run made his absence more bearable.
