Janhvi Kapoor Reflects on Her Role in Peddhi Amid Criticism

Actress Janhvi Kapoor has expressed her satisfaction with the discussions surrounding her role in the film ‘Peddhi.’ During a recent appearance on ‘Koffee with Karan’ alongside Varun Dhawan, she addressed the criticism regarding the portrayal of her character in this sports drama.

Rather than dismissing the criticism, Janhvi chose to view it from a different perspective. She believes that the conversation sparked by her character might lead to greater sensitivity towards actresses who feel uncomfortable about certain aspects of their portrayals.

“I’m glad there’s been significant discourse around my representation in ‘Peddhi.’ Perhaps next time an actress voices discomfort, people won’t view her as an alien,” she remarked.

While discussing the topic, Janhvi admitted she hesitated to speak up initially, considering the hard work put in by many on the project. The ‘Dhadak’ star shared, “I wasn’t sure what to say or if I should say anything at all, but it was crucial for me to take responsibility for what transpired. I felt a heavy weight on my conscience about the negative impact such portrayals can have on society, particularly on women.”

She acknowledged feeling embarrassed about the potential societal repercussions, noting that she could have been more vigilant. “Could I have done more? Could I have been more aware? Could I have protested more strongly? Absolutely. Was it problematic? Did it contribute to objectification and even sexual harassment? Yes,” she stated.

Janhvi reflected on whether she should have been more assertive during filming. “I don’t want to say this in a way that seems like I’m shifting blame, but you know how things operate. Yes, you have to remain professional and follow the director’s vision. As I learned more, I tried to mitigate any issues to the best of my understanding.”
