Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the closing ceremony of the ‘Lekhak Gaon International Festival 2026’ held at Lekhak Gaon in Thano, Dehradun, on Thursday. On this occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled Lekhak Gaon’s magazine, “Dharti Ka Swarg Uttarakhand” (Uttarakhand: Heaven on Earth), and the booklet “Devbhoomi Ka Kavya Pushp” (Poetic Blossoms of Devbhoomi), according to the sources. Former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Vice-Chancellor of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna University Prakash Singh, Professor Pradeep Bhardwaj, Professor Rakesh Sundriyal, Vidushi Nishank, and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Promoting Literature and Culture

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister remarked that Lekhak Gaon symbolises progressive thoughts that guide society, actively shaping both the present and the future. Beyond providing a dedicated platform for local talent, it is carving out a distinct identity for the state on the global literary map. Remembering Bharat Ratna late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he described the former Prime Minister as a true devotee of words whose writing possessed the steadfastness of the mountains and the depth of the Ganges. “Atal Ji taught us that words, too, can serve as powerful instruments for nation-building,” he stated.

Uttarakhand as a Creative Hub

Highlighting the state’s rich heritage, CM Dhami noted that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has always been a hub of creativity, knowledge, and culture. Great sages composed numerous timeless scriptures on this land, and ideas originating here have consistently inspired and propelled society forward. He added that the natural beauty of Devbhoomi has long been a muse for writers, poets, and thinkers, emphasising that literature is the true reflection of our core values and ideals.

The Chief Minister further acknowledged the pivotal role played by writers, poets, and creators in giving new direction to India’s freedom struggle, as well as their significant contributions during the Uttarakhand statehood movement. The Chief Minister affirmed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the nation is witnessing a continuous renaissance of its cultural and literary heritage. Drawing inspiration from the Prime Minister, the state government is taking concrete steps to compile, preserve, and restore Uttarakhand’s scattered literary wealth, advancing with the resolve of achieving development while safeguarding heritage.

Development and Migration in Border Areas

Speaking at the event, Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta stated that Uttarakhand is witnessing historic development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Due to the concerted efforts of the central and state governments, reverse migration is steadily increasing in border areas. He also highlighted an unprecedented surge in tourist footfall in regions like Adi Kailash and Niti-Mana, noting that destinations that once took five days to reach are now accessible within just a few hours.
