Olivia Colman Shares Her Secret to a Lasting Marriage with Ed Sinclair

Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman has opened up about the enduring strength of her marriage to husband Ed Sinclair. The couple, who met at Cambridge University in the 1990s and married in August 2001, recently shared insights into their 22-year journey.

Speaking with TikTok creators Benedict and Hannah Townsend while promoting her new film ‘Wicker’ with Alexander Skarsgard, Colman, 50, was asked by the four-year married couple for advice on reaching milestones like her own. Her wisdom was simple yet profound: “Be kind to each other.” She elaborated on a key lesson learned over the years, quoting a person married for five decades who said, “Sometimes it’s the things you don’t say.”

Colman clarified this, suggesting it’s about timing and approach. “Wait for the right moment to bring it up in a nice way,” she advised. The ‘Crown’ star revealed that neither she nor Ed are confrontational. “I’m not a conflict person, nor is my husband,” she stated, emphasizing their strategy of calm communication. “We’ve learned over the years to definitely try and talk about, you know, ‘That thing on Tuesday, can we talk about that?’ in a calm way and then it works well.”

She concluded by highlighting the importance of finding a gentle moment for discussion. “Find a nice gentle time to say, ‘Can we talk about that thing?’ And often it’s, ‘What thing?’ Neither of us has noticed. But if one of us has been upset by it, then we’ll talk it through. For some people, it works in the heat of the moment; it doesn’t work for me.”
