Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf was fined 20% of his match fee and given a demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following his confrontation with England all-rounder Will Jacks during their ODI in Lahore on Sunday.
Rauf is now closer to a suspension as a result of the punishment, which raises his total to five demerit points over a 24-month period. He was convicted of violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with behavior that goes against the spirit of the game.
Haris Rauf And Will Jacks’ Altercation
The incident happened at the conclusion of Pakistan’s innings’ 46th over. Batting at the non-striker’s end, Rauf argued with Jacks after requesting a wide. Despite umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid’s warning, he raised his bat during the exchange and persisted in arguing. Then Rauf approached the England all-rounder, brushing by the umpire.
Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel was the basis for Rauf’s charges. His third offense in a 24-month period was the most recent demerit point.
What Does The ICC Rule States?
A player obtains suspension points under ICC regulations if they accrue four or more demerit points in a 24-month period. Depending on the format in which the player next plays, two suspension points result in a ban from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is.
After accounting for time allowances, England was judged to be three overs short of the minimum rate and were fined 15% of their match fee. In accordance with ICC regulations, players are penalized five percent of their match fee for each over in which their team fails.
Both Rauf and Harry Brook, the captain of England, acknowledged their respective transgressions and agreed to the penalties suggested by match referee Jeff Crowe. Formal hearings were not necessary.
The action came after Pakistan defeated England by one wicket to advance to the tri-series final in a thrilling conclusion to Sunday’s ODI. Pakistan was down to 154 for nine while chasing 243 until Shadab Khan and Rauf set up an undefeated 89-run partnership for the last wicket.
