Gaza Peace Talks: Hamas on Saturday refused to take part in the proposed peace agreement in Gaza. The organization’s senior leader Hossam Badran told AFP that Hamas would not attend the official signing ceremony. He said the organization has been active in ceasefire negotiations primarily through Qatar and Egypt as mediators. Hamas leaders described US President Donald Trump’s suggestion that its members leave Gaza as part of his peace proposal as inconsistent and baseless. “It is absolutely unacceptable and absurd to talk about expelling any Palestinian from their land, whether they are members of Hamas or not,” Badran said.
Arms handover and peace talks in Gaza
Hamas also made it clear that handing over weapons is not possible under the US peace plan. This is not even negotiable. At the same time, Trump has said that the issue of handing over weapons to Hamas will be raised in the second phase of the peace plan. Badran warned that Hamas would be ready to stop aggression if hostilities resumed. He also said that the next phase of Gaza peace talks will be difficult and complex.
Life back to normal in Gaza
Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians are returning to the north bank of Gaza. They are going back to their abandoned homes on foot, by car and vehicles.
