UP Warriorz sign Sushma Verma for Rs 30 lakh in WPL 2027 auction

Wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma was acquired by UP Warriorz for Rs 30 lakh during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction on October 28 in Kochi, Keralam.

Verma, who last appeared in a T20 International nearly ten years ago, had previously played for Gujarat Giants in the inaugural 2023 WPL season. UP Warriorz secured her at her base price.

Several other prominent wicketkeepers and overseas fast bowlers remained unsold. Uma Chetry, part of India’s ODI World Cup-winning team and the first cricketer from Assam to represent India, went unsold at her base price of Rs 30 lakh despite having been with UP Warriorz before. Former Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia also failed to attract bids; she has formerly played for Delhi Capitals in the league.

Nuzhat Parween, earlier with UP Warriorz, and swing bowler Saima Thakor, who debuted in 2024 but did not take any wickets in the 2025 season, went unsold. Among overseas players, Australian fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck, Sri Lankan seam bowler Mithali Ayodhya (19), and New Zealand fast bowler Rosemary Mair, a member of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad, all went unsold at their base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Indian swing bowler Titas Sadhu, part of India’s Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning team in 2023 and formerly representing Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants, also remained unsold. The mini-auction saw 146 players vying for 27 available slots across five franchises as teams sought to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming WPL season.
