Trump: Iran Seeks Deal, Awaiting Midterms; “I Decide When It Ends”

Former US President Donald Trump recently stated that Iran is keen on striking a deal with Washington but is prolonging negotiations, possibly awaiting the upcoming elections.

Trump asserted, “It’s a question of when do I want to end it… They’ve wanted to make a deal, but they like tapping it along. Maybe they’re waiting for the election or something – but that’s not gonna help them.” This statement comes amidst heightened tensions and criticisms from Iranian officials regarding US conduct.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei sharply criticized Trump’s remarks on the 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), accusing Washington of consistently reneging on its commitments and calling for accountability. Baghaei highlighted, “Washington’s contempt for diplomacy is once again laid bare… For Iran, this is nothing new. Washington has a long record of reneging on its commitments.” He urged European states and others not to “whitewash U.S. misconduct.”

Earlier, speaking at a rally in Texas, Trump claimed America did not initiate the conflict with Iran, stating that Iran has been waging war against the US since 1979. He also touched upon the Russia-Ukraine conflict, claiming progress, and expressed approval for Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro’s potential entry into the US, criticizing the Brazilian election process.
