New Delhi, Oct 28: Lucas Gabriel is chasing a ONE World Title, but away from the ring, his heart belongs to his family. The Brazilian lightweight MMA fighter faces undefeated promotional debutant Magomed Magomedov in the main event of ONE Fight Night 49 on Saturday, November 7, from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.
Gabriel trains at Phuket Fight Club and holds a career record of 11-1 with a 5-0 ONE slate. He has competed six times in the promotion, though one of his wins was later declared a no contest. A victory here could push him toward a potential title shot.
Away from fighting, Gabriel’s life revolves around his 4-year-old daughter, Maite, and the rest of his family. He says nothing beats a quiet day off spent together, and he made clear how much those moments mean to him.
“My daughter is the biggest joy in my life. And I do love spending my free time with my family. For me, a perfect day off is all about enjoying those simple moments with the people I love,” Gabriel said.
That family-first mindset sits alongside a fierce competitive streak, one his wife has noticed. Gabriel admits she may be right about it, but he works to keep his professional fighting life separate from the rest of his life.
“My wife always says I’m competitive in everything I do, and she’s probably right. I try my best to separate things, though. Fighting is my profession, and I know I can’t approach every situation in life as if I were competing inside the ring,” he said.
Standing across from him is the 31-year-old Magomedov, who represents Bahrain and carries a perfect 15-0 MMA record. Gabriel spoke openly about what he ultimately wants from his career and the legacy he hopes to leave behind in the sport.
“My biggest goal is to become a World Champion and leave my mark on the sport. I want to be remembered as the best and most well-rounded fighter. I want my career to mean something and to be recognized for everything I’ve accomplished inside the cage,” Gabriel said.
