India’s squash sensation Anahat Singh was forced to pull out of the Canadian Open quarterfinal due to an injury. The sixth seed Anahat was set to face Egyptian top seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir for a place in the final.
Anahat has been in great form over the last few months, and defeated English Saran Nghiem 11-6, 4-11, 11-5, 11-7 in the previous round. She was given a bye in the first round. Anahat was looking for the Canadian Open title after losing to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the semifinal of the Silicon Valley Open; however, the injury came as a big setback. The development was confirmed by the PSA Squash Tour.
“India’s has withdrawn from her Canadian Women’s Open 2026 quarter-final match tomorrow due to injury. The 18-year-old was due to face top seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir in the opening match tomorrow night at Brookfield Place after defeating Saran Nghiem yesterday. Aboelkheir has received a walkover to the semi-finals in Toronto as a result,” PSA Squash Tour wrote on their website on Tuesday.
Anahat’s withdrawal meant that Aboelkheir received a walkover to the semi finals in Toronto.
Anahat has quickly become one of India’s top squash stars after a series of stellar results in recent times. At the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, she helped India win the first silver medal in the women’s category. She also defeated world number one and top seed Nour El Sherbini and sixth seed Salma Hany in back-to-back matches during the semifinal run to the Silicon Valley Open.
Meanwhile, there is no clear update on the kind and extent of Anahat Singh’s injury and no timeline has been provided for her return. The injury has also put Anahat’s participation in the upcoming tournaments in doubt. Anahat is scheduled to play in the US Open Squash Championships, Richardson Wealth Vancouver PSA Open, and Pittsburgh Open, which are scheduled to be played from November 5 to 9, November 11 to 15, and November 15 to 19, respectively.
