What is the Windows 10 ESU program?
Microsoft launched the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program last year. Under this, users will continue to get important and critical safety updates, but it does not include new operating system features or technical support. According to the company, this is not a long-term solution, but it is helpful to stay safe for a year.
ESU Program Requirements
- Running Windows 10 version 22H2 (Home, Professional, Pro Education, or Workstation edition).
- Have the latest Windows updates installed.
- Microsoft account has administrator privileges.
How to sign up to Windows 10 ESU?
You have three options to sign up for Windows 10 ESU. First by using Windows Backup for free. Second, you can sign up by using Microsoft Reward Points and third, by making a one-time payment of $30 (approximately ₹2,660). According to Microsoft, this program is being rolled out gradually, but it will be available to all eligible users before October 14, 2025.
Process to sign up for Windows 10 ESU
- Go to Settings, click on Updates & Security and go to Windows Update.
- If your device is eligible, an Enroll Now link will appear in ESU.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Select your enrollment date and choose between Backup to One Drive, Microsoft Rewards Redeem, or $30 payment.
- After completing the process, your PC will be eligible to receive Windows 10 ESU updates until October 13, 2026.
