IMD Issues Orange Alert

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Thursday, forecasting very light to light rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong surface winds. These conditions are expected to be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph during the evening and night.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will settle at 28 degrees Celsius. Similar conditions are likely to persist for the next few days, with a yellow alert already in place for Friday.

Rain Activity To Increase

Speaking to news agency PTI, Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet Weather, said that the gusty winds and isolated rain activity over the region were being driven by a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining areas.

He further stated that the pre-monsoon activity is likely to intensify starting Thursday, bringing widespread rainfall across Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.

“The rain activity is likely to increase significantly, and temperatures are expected to fall below the 40-degree Celsius mark over the next few days,” Palawat was quoted as saying.
