Jharkhand Cricket Association Files Complaint With BCCI Over Alleged Scoring Error in Women’s U19 T20 Trophy 2026

Adramatic conclusion to a Women’s Under-19 T20 Trophy Elite pre-quarter-final match on October 20, 2026, has ignited a major controversy, with the Jharkhand Cricket Association (JCA) filing a formal complaint to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The JCA alleges that a critical scoring blunder by an official scorer denied their Women’s Under-19 team a deserved tie, leading to a heartbreaking one-run defeat against Uttarakhand and their subsequent elimination from the tournament.

The incident, which has sent ripples through the domestic cricket circuit, reportedly occurred at the Lady Amritbai Daga College Ground in Nagpur during Jharkhand’s chase of Uttarakhand’s total.

The Disputed Delivery

According to the JCA’s complaint, the pivotal moment unfolded at the 19.4-over mark of Jharkhand’s innings. Batter Lakshmi Kumari was run out while attempting a second run. The association vehemently contends that while the dismissal was correctly recorded, the official scorer failed to credit the first run that had already been completed before the run-out. This alleged omission meant the run was never added to Jharkhand’s official total.

Curiously, the scoreboard operator at the ground did display the disputed run, leading Jharkhand players to continue their chase based on what they believed was the correct updated tally. However, the official score card, which umpires are bound to follow, ultimately reflected the lower total, resulting in Jharkhand being bowled out for 133 on the final ball, falling one run short of Uttarakhand’s 134 for 6.

Match Summary

Team Innings Score Wickets Overs
Uttarakhand 134 6 20
Jharkhand 133 10 20

Uttarakhand’s innings was anchored by captain Kareena, who scored 59 runs off 59 deliveries, including nine boundaries. Nirjala Mahra contributed 22 runs, and Kanika Negi added an unbeaten 21 off 12 balls. For Jharkhand, captain Priyanka Luthra was a standout performer, scoring 64 runs off 42 balls before being dismissed in the 15th over by Danu, who claimed three wickets for 31 runs.

JCA’s Stance and BCCI’s Role

Jharkhand officials immediately challenged the scorer after the match, but the scorer reportedly declined to alter the entry. The JCA’s complaint to the BCCI hinges on the argument that this procedural adherence to an incorrect official score denied their team a crucial share of points and prematurely ended their tournament journey.

As of October 27, 2026, the BCCI’s response to the formal complaint and any subsequent action remains unconfirmed. This incident underscores the paramount importance of accurate scorekeeping in competitive cricket, especially in knockout stages where every run can dictate a team’s fate and leave players and associations questioning the integrity of results.
