New Delhi: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan on Sunday broke the record for most runs scored by a batter while batting at no.8 in an ODI innings.
Shadab achieved the feat with his unbeaten 113 run knock in Pakistan’s tri-series clash against England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Shadab’s sensational knock helped Pakistan pull off a stunning 1-wicket win against England in the game. The hosts were reeling at 154/9 at one stage in the 242-run chase, however, Shadab single-handedly helped them get over the line with his maiden ODI ton.
Shadab came out to bat at no.8 when Pakistan were 103/6, having lost Arafat Minhas. The hosts kept losing wickets from one end, but Shadab held the other end strongly. He brought up his fifty with a six off Henry Crocombe before accelerating in the middle overs.
Drama ensued when Shadab was given out lbw on 97 against Gus Atkinson, leaving the England players celebrating what appeared to be a victory. However, a review revealed an inside edge, giving the Pakistan all-rounder a new lease of life. He went on to complete his maiden ODI ton and finished with 113 not out to take the team over the line in the pressure run chase.
