Nitish Reddy Sets Sights on World Cup Partnership
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has expressed his eagerness to serve as a full-fledged all-rounder and potentially team up with star player Hardik Pandya in the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
He emphasized the importance of gaining experience leading up to this prestigious tournament.
Performance Highlights
In a recent match, Nitish showcased his skills as a pace-bowling all-rounder, taking a vital wicket of Bevon Jacobs with figures of 1/31 in three overs. He also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 26 runs off 13 balls, helping India secure a four-wicket victory after a challenging position at 112/6 while chasing 181 runs.
Emphasis on Experience
Following India’s win, Nitish was questioned about his readiness to continue as an all-rounder and possibly partner with Hardik Pandya in South Africa. He remarked, “Bowling in defensive situations enhances your skills.” He further noted, “It’s all about accumulating experience before the World Cup arrives.”
In his eight ODIs, Nitish has amassed 109 runs at an average of 27.25, including a half-century, and has taken three wickets. His T20I performance has been particularly impressive, with 11 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 25.36, boasting best figures of 3/24.
Strategic Mindset and Coaching Impact
Discussing his aggressive batting during a tense chase, Nitish explained how he aimed to shift the pressure back onto the New Zealand bowlers, especially when the team needed 69 runs off 31 balls with only four wickets remaining. He stated, “We focused on believing we could secure one strong over, which is crucial in T20 cricket.”
He also praised head coach Gautam Gambhir for fostering a pressure-free environment, allowing players to perform naturally. “Gautam sir encourages us to maintain belief in any situation without imposing extra pressure,” he added.
