Actor Micky Singh has said that working alongside acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee in the 2023 legal drama Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai was a valuable learning experience, revealing how his ability to approach the same scene differently kept his co-stars on their toes.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Micky praised Bajpayee’s acting skills and said she learned a great deal from observing his preparation and performance during their scenes together.
Asked whether she had learned anything special from Bajpayee as an actor, Micky said, “Yes, I learned a lot. He is a very good actor, an amazing actor.”
She explained that Bajpayee could perform a scene in numerous ways, making it essential for his co-actors to remain alert and adaptable.
“He can do a scene in 20 different ways. Whenever we were shooting a scene together, he would start it in a different way, so you had to be prepared,” she said.
Micky added that Bajpayee arrived on set thoroughly prepared, allowing him to bring spontaneity and variety to his performances.
Reflecting on their scenes, she said she felt she was often reacting to Bajpayee rather than consciously acting opposite him. According to Micky, responding to his choices in the moment helped her learn more about the craft.
“Manoj comes to the set completely prepared to shoot. I think my scene with him was very good because I was not really acting; I was reacting to Manoj. Whatever he was doing, I was reacting to him. That is why I got a lot to learn from him,” she said.
Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai was backed by Zee Studios and Bhanushali Studios. The legal drama is inspired by the five-year-long legal battle fought by sessions court lawyer P.C. Solanki during the trial of Asaram in a rape case involving a 16-year-old girl.
Bajpayee played advocate P.C. Solanki in the film, while Adrija Sinha portrayed Nu Singh. The cast also included Surya Mohan Kulshrestha as Asumal “Asaram” Sirumalani Harpalani, Nikhil Pandey as Amit Nihag, Priyanka Setia as ACP Chanchal Mishra, Jaihind Kumar as Nu’s father and Durga Sharma as her mother.
