Madhuri Dixit Reveals How Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Toe Obsession’ Turned New Shoes into ‘Mojaris’ During ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’

Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit has shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes memory of filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya from the sets of their 1994 blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun, recalling how his habit of standing on his toes gradually changed the shape of his new shoes.

Madhuri shared the amusing anecdote during a special reunion with her co-stars Renuka Shahane and Priya Berde on the Marathi reality quiz show Kon Honar Crorepati. The three actresses came together on the show to revisit memories of the family entertainer, which was released 32 years ago.

Madhuri, who hosts the show, recalled that Barjatya would arrive wearing new shoes whenever a fresh shooting schedule began, only for them to change shape over the following days because of his distinctive habit.

“I remember one thing about Sooraj ji. Whenever a new schedule began, he would come wearing new shoes. He had this habit of going up on his toes, and we would all joke about it. After ten days, the shoes would start loosening up,” she said.

Joining in, Renuka added, “After fifteen days, they would loosen up even more!”

Madhuri continued the story, saying, “Slowly slowly, their shape would change, and by the end, they would become mojaris!”

The light-hearted exchange brought back memories of the camaraderie the actresses shared while working on the film, which featured Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in the lead roles. Renuka played Pooja, while Priya portrayed Chameli.

The reunion also offered the actresses an opportunity to reflect on their bond during the film’s shoot. Madhuri recalled feeling happy when she learnt that Renuka and Priya were also part of the cast.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, remains one of Hindi cinema’s best-known family entertainers, remembered for its music, wedding celebrations and ensemble cast.
