Sri Lanka Captain Kusal Mendis, Pakistan Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Sri Lanka and Pakistan for slow over-rates in the opening match of the One Day International (ODI) Tri-Series in Rawalpindi on 18 October, 2026. Sri Lanka were fined 5% of their match fees for finishing one over short of the required target, while Pakistan were fined 10% for falling two overs short, after time allowances were taken into consideration, the ICC said.
Under the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Jeff Crowe imposed the sanctions. Sri Lanka Captain Kusal Mendis and Pakistan Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded guilty and accepted the penalties, avoiding the need for formal hearings.
The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.
