Pragyan Ojha Replaces Agarkar As BCCI Selection Committee Chairman

Mumbai: Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has been appointed chairman of the BCCI’s Men’s Selection Committee, succeeding Ajit Agarkar, while former spinner Ramesh Powar has joined the five-member panel.

The appointments were unanimously recommended by the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, following interviews at the BCCI headquarters. Ojha’s elevation as chairman is based on seniority determined by the number of Test matches played.

The selection panel now comprises Ojha, Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Powar.

Agarkar’s tenure, which began in July 2023, ended on October 4, 2026, after he opted against seeking an extension. Under his leadership, India won the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, the 2025 Champions Trophy, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals.

Ojha, inducted into the selection committee in September 2025, represented India in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and six T20Is.

Powar played two Tests and 31 ODIs. His coaching career includes leading India’s women’s team to an Asia Cup title and a Commonwealth Games silver medal, besides coaching Mumbai and Gujarat and serving as a bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
