New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will close the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 late fee registration today, October 9. Aspirants who miss the deadline still have a chance to apply with a late fee through the link available at gate.iitg.ac.in.
GATE is one of the most competitive exams for postgraduate admissions and recruitment in public sector undertakings (PSUs). Every year, lakhs of candidates across engineering, technology, architecture, and science streams appear for the test.
GATE 2026 application fee
The GATE 2026 application fee for female candidates and those who belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Person with Disability (PwD) categories is Rs 1,000 per paper. For all other candidates, including foreign nationals, the application fee is Rs 2,000 per paper.
With the late fee, the GATE application fee is Rs 1,500 for female candidates and SC, ST or PwD category candidates. While it is Rs 2,500 for all other candidates.
GATE 2026 exam in February
As per the official schedule, the GATE 2026 exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15. The exam will be conducted in multiple sessions across various centres in India. This year, GATE is expected to see a large number of applicants due to the inclusion of more interdisciplinary subjects and growing demand for Master of Technology (MTech), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) opportunities.
Candidates must ensure that they complete the application process by submitting personal details, educational qualifications, valid identification proof, and the prescribed application fee through the official GATE portal.
GATE scores are accepted for admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and several universities abroad. Additionally, over 40 public sector undertakings (PSUs) consider GATE scores for recruitment into technical positions.
