Television actor Rakhi Sawant has run into trouble with the law as a court in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a non-bailable warrant against her in relation to a 2010 case arising out of her reality television show, Rakhi Ka Insaaf. The case pertains to Laxman Ahirwar, a 24-year-old man who committed suicide after appearing on the show with his wife as they were involved in a domestic conflict.
A non-bailable warrant has been issued against her on October 16, 2026, owing to the fact that she did not appear in front of the court despite repeated summons, says District Government Counsel (Crime) Mridul Kant Srivastava. It has been reported that she has been asked to be produced in court by December 1 through police arrest. Her next court appearance is also fixed on the same date. This case has once again come to limelight after more than 16 years.
Here is what the case is about.
What Is The ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’ Case?
Rakhi Ka Insaaf was a reality show hosted by Rakhi Sawant in which people came on to the show in order to talk about their personal conflicts or relationship problems. This particular case of Ahirwar started in Jhansi where he was living along with his wife, Anita. It is said that the couple was having some kind of problem in their marital life, and hence they took this matter to the television show.
His mother, Savitri, complained that Sawant used abusive language against her son during the episode which was aired in October 2010. It was said that these words caused humiliation to him and resulted in his psychological trauma. This ultimately led to his suicide in November 2010. This is what forms the base of this case. These allegations made against Sawant do not constitute guilt in any way.
Why Was A Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Against Rakhi Sawant?
The most recent legal action stems from the persistent absence by Sawant from the court process and not due to any fresh involvement of the actor in any wrongdoing. According to information provided in the media by the district government counsel, Sawant failed to appear before the court on October 16 when she had to do so. The court went ahead to issue a non-bailable warrant against her.
A non-bailable warrant is a order issued by the court authorizing the police to arrest the individual and produce him or her before the court. It is a stronger way of addressing the situation when, in the opinion of the court, the issuance of an arrest warrant is called for. The issuing of a non-bailable warrant does not mean that she has been arrested or that she has committed the offense.
What Happened After Laxman Ahirwar’s Death?
After Ahirwar’s death, his mother approached the police and said that the statements made on the television show had something to do with the death of her son. A case was filed, and the investigation resulted in a chargesheet against Sawant and other persons related to the programme, as per media reports.
The issue also brought the liability of reality television programmes while handling sensitive issues to light. The nature of the programme was such that it brought out personal issues of people into the limelight, and thus raised issues about the treatment of the participants and the effects of insulting or abusive statements. But the actual legal liability of the people involved in the case would be known only after the trial in court.
What Happens Next In The Case?
According to reports, Sawant was summoned to appear before the court on December 1, 2026, and that is when the next hearing will take place. Hence, in the current case, the first point is that Sawant has been given an order to appear in court, which is due to her absence. The issue she is facing has its origins in 2010.
Now that the case has once again made headlines after more than a decade and a half, there is a lot of attention paid to both the reality show and the tragic fate of Ahirwar.
