Antonio Raimondo scored a hat- trick for Frosinone in a 4-2 win over Sassuolo in Serie A on Friday, and Toulouse netted three times in the second half to overcome a plucky Le Mans 3-0 in the French league.
Younes Ebnoutalib’s late goal gave Eintracht Frankfurt a 1-0 win over Cologne and ended its six-game winless run at home in the Bundesliga.
In Spain, lowly Levante picked up points for the second game in a row when it came from behind to draw 1-1 at Deportivo La Coruna.
Frankfurt breaks six-match home droughtIn Germany, neither side created many chances but Ebnoutalib finished neatly in the 77th minute after being set up by Noell Aseko Nkili, who had replaced Mario Gotze moments earlier.
The result was a welcome win for a side that lost 6-0 at Leipzig in its last game and which lifts it into eighth place.
Cologne fell to 11th after a 16th straight away game without a win, the longest current streak in the Bundesliga.
Giacomo Calo opened the scoring for Frosinone with the aid of a goalkeeping error and although Domenico Berardi equalized for the visitors after a quarter of an hour, Raimundo took charge soon after with a series of classic poacher goals. He scored in the 26th and 30th minutes and added a fourth in the second half after Kristian Thorstvedt had cut the deficit.
It marked seven goals in seven games for the 22-year-old Raimondo, coming after doubles against Fiorentina and Venezia before the international break.
The win got Frosinone back on track after a 3-0 loss to Napoli last weekend and lifts it into fifth place in the Serie A table. Sassuolo is 11th and has now failed to keep a clean sheet in all seven of its Serie A games this season.
Le Mans concedes three in second half
Toulouse used a dominant second half to end Le Mans unbeaten home run in Ligue 1.
Back in the top tier after 16 years, Le Mans had not lost in its first three home matches this season.
But a 46th-minute goal from Canadian striker Jacen Russell-Rowe put Toulouse in front and Norwegian midfielder Aron Donnum added a second on the hour mark. Dane Casper Tengstedt netted the third in the 87th. Le Mans has now conceded goals in all seven of its league games this season. The newly promoted side sits in 15th place, while Toulouse moved into seventh. Levante scores late at Coruna Daniel Requena’s first goal of the season earned Levante a draw at Deportivo La Coruna and extended the home side’s winless run to five matches. Coruna started the season with an unbeaten run of five games but it hasn’t won since. It took the lead through Cameroon forward Bil Nsongo after 63 minutes but Requena’s equalised eight minutes from the end. Levante has now taken four points from its last six and moved one point further from the bottom three. Coruna remained in eighth with 11 points.
Meanwhile, Napoli slumped to another defeat on Saturday with Akor Adams’ strike giving Venezia a 1-0 win for its first Serie A points of the season.
Kevin De Bruyne saw his penalty saved by Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic as Massimiliano Allegri’s team suffered its second straight loss – after its Champions League defeat to Villarreal – and a third loss from seven games in the Italian league. Adams chased Simon Sohm’s hopeful punt forward and capitalized on a mistake from Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani to win the ball and shoot past goalkeeper Alex Meret with the aid of a deflection from Rrahmani’s desperate challenge just after the break.
Meanwhile, Alex Baena scored late for Atletico Madrid to beat Espanyol 1-0 away in La Liga. Agencies
