The big Dussehra releases, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali, have made their way to theatres. While the former starring Rajinikanth mostly received positive reports, the latter headlined by Vijay Deverakonda opened to mixed opinions among audiences.
The genres and subjects of both films are quite contrasting, but there is one factor that puts Jailer 2 a few notches above Ranabaali. While Anirudh infused life into Jailer 2 with his scintillating score, Ranabaali failed to deliver on this front.
This is the opinion of general audiences and not just critics. Even normal and routine scenes in Jailer 2 turned out to be enjoyable, thanks to Anirudh’s heavy lifting. Even when the writing wasn’t on point, Anirudh made certain portions watchable.
Ranabaali, on the other hand, had a good plot and some well-written, intense moments. However, the audience couldn’t feel the intended adrenaline rush because Ajay-Atul’s score faltered in comparison. The lack of an electrifying background score ultimately resulted in an underwhelming experience.
Jailer 2 and Ranabaali have once again proven that background score plays a pivotal role in determining a film’s verdict. A good score can make a decent film successful and elevate a below-par film to at least an average fare. But when this aspect falls short, even a well-intended movie can fail to make the desired impact.
