Toyota Glanza costs Rs 1 lakh more than Baleno, but what are buyers really paying for?

2026 Toyota Glanza facelift arrives with a familiar challenge: convincing buyers to pay more for a car that shares most of its mechanicals with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Starting at Rs 6.99 lakh, the updated Glanza costs Rs 1 lakh more than the Baleno’s Rs 5.99 lakh entry price. While Toyota has refreshed the design and added equipment, the real question is whether these changes justify the premium.

Toyota Glanza vs Baleno: What does the extra money buy?

Glanza gets a redesigned front fascia, a larger grille, revised LED fog lamp housings and two new colour options, Bluish Black and Digital Teal Green. The Baleno follows a different styling approach, although both hatchbacks retain similar proportions and nearly identical rear designs.

Inside, the differences are more limited. Both models offer features such as ventilated front seats, a nine-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on selected variants.

Same engine, similar fuel efficiency

Both cars use a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83hp and 112Nm. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox, while CNG versions are also available with manual and AMT options.

Claimed fuel efficiency is identical: 23.80kmpl for petrol-manual versions and 24.77kmpl for petrol-AMT models. The CNG variants claim up to 34.47km/kg with the AMT gearbox. This means the Glanza does not offer a clear powertrain or mileage advantage over its Maruti counterpart.

Price difference: Where the Baleno has an advantage

Glanza range starts at Rs 6.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.49 lakh, while the Baleno starts at Rs 5.99 lakh and reaches Rs 9.99 lakh for its top-spec AMT variant. The price gap varies by trim, so comparing equivalent equipment levels is important.

Is the Toyota Glanza worth buying?

Glanza makes sense for buyers who prefer its styling or value Toyota’s dealer network and ownership proposition. However, those prioritising purchase price and value may find the Baleno more compelling, given its shared hardware and broadly similar feature list.
