Indians love 7-seaters for their practicality, space and road presence, and the segment is growing. Japanese carmakers are known for building reliable, comfortable family vehicles, and three have new 7-seaters in the pipeline for India. Some of them are only a few months away, while one will take a bit longer. So, to get you up to speed, here’s a list of the top three new Japanese 7-seaters coming to India!
Upcoming Japanese 7-Seaters: Toyota Innova Facelift
The Toyota Innova Hycross facelift has been spotted testing in India with heavy camouflage. The spy shots reveal a revised front end with a new fascia seemingly inspired by the Toyota Hilux, along with a new bumper and updated lighting elements. The Hycross was launched in December 2022, and Toyota usually brings a mid-cycle update after about four years, so the facelift is likely to arrive in early 2027.

Don’t expect big changes under the skin. The facelift is expected to continue with the current 2.0-litre petrol and strong-hybrid powertrains. In terms of features, we expect a larger touchscreen and some interior tweaks, while the rest of the feature list should carry over from the current model. The Hycross also scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Toyota hasn’t confirmed the launch date yet. The Hycross is currently priced between Rs. 23.62 lakh and Rs. 40.13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and we expect a slight price hike with the facelift.
New Nissan 7-Seater SUV
Nissan’s next product for India will be a big, three-row D-segment SUV. It has been spotted testing, and it appears to be based on the Tekton, with revised lighting elements and a stretched rear quarter to set it apart from the 5-seater. Nissan India’s managing director has said that it will be “completely different, and not just an extension of the Tekton”, and that it will launch before the end of this financial year (March 31, 2027). The SUV doesn’t have a name yet.

It will likely use the Tekton’s 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which makes around 161 bhp, skipping the smaller 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. The third row is expected to follow a 5+2 layout, and Nissan is likely to add more features than the Tekton to suit the bigger SUV. We expect this SUV to be priced between Rs. 18 lakh and Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it up against the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
New Honda 7-Seater SUV
Honda is reportedly working on a made-in-India 7-seater SUV that will sit above the Elevate. Earlier reports claimed it would be the first model on Honda’s new PF2 platform, but a recent report suggests that Honda has dropped the PF2 project. Honda hasn’t confirmed this, as it doesn’t want to fuel speculation about future platforms.

It’s unclear how this affects the 7-seater, and Honda hasn’t revealed its platform, engine, or launch timeline. Honda is reportedly changing how it develops cars for India, with Tata Technologies handling design and engineering and TCS working on infotainment, as it tries to cut development time significantly. Earlier estimates pointed to a late-2027 launch, but it still seems unlikely. If it does arrive, we expect it to take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari, so Honda will need to price it competitively.
