Mohammed Siraj’s Dip in Form Is Temporary, Says Former India Coach Bharat Arun

New Delhi: Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun believes Mohammed Siraj’s recent struggles are only a temporary dip in form, expressing confidence that the experienced fast bowler can return to his best by regaining his rhythm.

Questions have been raised about Siraj’s pace and effectiveness following his performances in the Test series against Sri Lanka and the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies, which India won 2-1. Siraj has established himself as a dependable fast bowler, particularly in Test cricket, and has taken on greater responsibility amid Mohammed Shami’s absence and Jasprit Bumrah’s injury concerns.
Arun explained that fluctuations in performance are a natural part of professional sport and can affect both batters and bowlers. He also pointed to Siraj’s time away from competitive cricket before the Sri Lanka series as a possible factor in his recent difficulties.
According to the former bowling coach, players sometimes need time to overcome minor technical or rhythm related issues after an extended break. He believes Siraj’s experience will help him address these concerns and return to his previous level of performance.
Arun stressed that rhythm remains one of Siraj’s biggest strengths and suggested that working closely with his coach to rediscover it would be crucial to his comeback. Rather than treating the recent performances as a major concern, he expects the pacer to recover through the right preparation and adjustments.
Arun also shared his views on Shami’s continued absence from international cricket. The experienced fast bowler has not represented India since the Champions Trophy final in 2025, raising questions about his return to the national side.
Arun maintained that Shami has already established his credentials across formats and does not need to prove his ability again. He believes the selection decision should depend on the bowler’s current form and the team management’s assessment of his readiness.
With India relying on its pace attack across formats, Siraj’s return to consistent performances and the prospects of Shami’s comeback remain important considerations for the team’s future bowling plans.
