Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit has revisited the making of one of the most memorable sequences from her 1994 blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, revealing that the makers were initially hesitant about filming the iconic flower and slingshot scene featured in the song Didi Tera Devar Deewana.
Appearing on the reality show Kon Honar Crorepati, Madhuri shared the behind-the-scenes story after a contestant, Prajakta Tawade, a Kathak dancer, surprised her by dressing up in one of her memorable looks from the film.
The nostalgic moment prompted Madhuri to recall how the sequence took nearly 10 to 15 retakes to get right. Speaking in Marathi, the actress explained that the flower would sometimes miss its target, break or fly out of the slingshot, forcing the team to repeat the shot.
“It took us around 10–15 retakes to get the scene right. Sometimes we would miss, sometimes the flower would break, and sometimes it would fly out of the slingshot,” she recalled.
Madhuri also revealed that the filmmakers were initially apprehensive about how the scene would appear on screen and whether audiences might find it inappropriate.
“The makers were quite apprehensive about the scene. They wondered whether it would look bad or whether audiences would find it inappropriate,” she said.
The actress explained that she and the choreographers reassured the makers that the right camera angles would make the sequence look charming and suitable for the film. Their efforts eventually paid off, and the scene became part of the song’s enduring appeal.
Released in 1994, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya, starred Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in the lead roles. The family drama also featured Anupam Kher, Reema Lagoo, Alok Nath, Renuka Shahane, Mohnish Bahl, Bindu, Laxmikant Berde, Himani Shivpuri, Satish Shah and several other actors.
The film went on to achieve cult-classic status, with its music, family celebrations and memorable sequences continuing to resonate with audiences decades after its release.
