Actress Rashmika Mandanna has announced that she has adopted 400 families for three months as part of an initiative to support those in need, saying her character Jayamma in her upcoming film Ranabaali shares several similarities with her real-life personality.
The actress hopes that opening up about her charitable efforts will inspire others to contribute to society and extend a helping hand to those who need it.
Taking to social media, Rashmika explained that she had kept her charitable work private until now but decided to share the initiative in the hope that it would encourage others to undertake similar acts of kindness.
She said she planned to continue the initiative over the next year, supporting 400 families at a time for three months and helping them save money that would otherwise be spent on groceries.
“There is something in the characters you play that influence you.. A lot of you keep asking are there any similarities between Jayamma and me and my answer is yes – and this is one of them.. this has always been me and this is also her.. and I would always keep doing things like this for all the love that you give me.. but always kept it under the wraps cz I thought if I knew and just my team knew and just a bunch of us knew.. it was enough.. but now I am opening up about this because I am thinking.. if this could influence you lovelies out there to do anything like this.. I would be happy,” she wrote.
Explaining the initiative, Rashmika added, “So hence I thought why not start now.. with this! I’ve adopted 400 families today.. and I want to just help 400 families at a time for 3 months each and continue this for the next one year and hope that they can save that money of groceries and use it to save and plan their futures better..”
Emphasising the importance of small acts of kindness, the actress said, “Even a small act of kindness can change a person’s life and it doesn’t have to be big.. let’s all start with something small!!”
She added that the smiles resulting from the initiative made the effort worthwhile despite the sleepless nights, injuries, struggles, pain and tears she had experienced during her years of work.
“this is priceless!!” she wrote.
The initiative comes ahead of the release of Ranabaali, a period action drama directed by Rahul Sankrityan.
Set against the backdrop of the Madras famine of 1876–78, the film features Vijay Deverakonda as Ranabaali, a warrior who fights against British rule. Rashmika plays Jayamma, his wife and companion.
The actress said her character’s compassionate nature reflects an aspect of her own personality, adding that she hopes the initiative will motivate more people to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
