A 3-in-one vehicle: This concept can transform from an SUV to an MPV or pick-up

Fiat has unveiled the Multiplay concept, showcasing a versatile vehicle that combines the practicality of an MPV, the styling of an SUV and the utility of a pick-up truck. Measuring 4.45 metres in length, the concept features a sliding rear module that allows it to switch between a six-seat-plus-one configuration and a four-seat layout with an open cargo bed.

Presented during Stellantis’ ‘Night Before’ event, the Multiplay explores new ways of maximising cabin space and functionality within a single vehicle. Fiat says the concept is a laboratory for future innovations and is not a preview of a specific production model.

Fiat Multiplay concept: Transforming body style and seating

At the centre of the Multiplay is its C-pillar ‘Metamorfosi’ architecture, which uses a sliding rear module to change the vehicle’s configuration. In its family-oriented layout, the cabin accommodates six occupants along with an additional modular ‘Petsenger seat’. The alternative configuration offers four seats and an open cargo bed designed to carry bicycles, sports equipment and other bulky items.

The rear spoiler also serves a dual purpose, rotating to become an integrated bicycle rack capable of carrying up to two bicycles in the pick-up configuration. The concept aims to reduce the need for separate accessories by incorporating practical features into the vehicle’s design.

Fiat Multiplay concept: Flexible cabin and pet-friendly features

The cabin introduces several modular elements designed around the changing needs of families. The ‘Petsenger seat’ can function as a child-seat mounting point, a dedicated space for a pet, a small table or a storage compartment. Its detachable cushion section can also be used as a leash, while a folding bowl is housed in a door compartment.

Fiat has also reworked the rear passenger area to make better use of the available space, allowing up to two children and, when required, an adult to occupy the rear compartment.

Another distinctive feature is the ‘Sunseat’ configuration, in which the front passenger seat turns towards the rear and uses the dashboard as a backrest to create a lounge-style seating arrangement. Designed for use when the vehicle is parked, it offers a place to relax beneath the panoramic roof.

Large glass surfaces, expansive side windows and the panoramic roof are intended to enhance the feeling of space and connect the cabin with the outdoors.

Fiat Multiplay concept: Design inspired by Italian summers

The concept’s exterior and interior colours draw inspiration from a watermelon, with bright green bodywork contrasted by red and pink cabin elements. A soft pink floor and turquoise accents in the children’s area add to the theme.

Fiat has also explored sustainable and practical material solutions, including stitch-free 3D-knitted monomaterial textiles designed to reduce waste. Waterproof finishes in the children’s and pets’ areas are intended to make the cabin easier to use and maintain.

Technology is integrated into the dashboard through a concealed display that disappears when the vehicle is switched off, creating a cleaner cabin layout.

Fiat Multiplay concept: Inspired by the Multipla legacy

The Multiplay continues Fiat’s longstanding focus on maximising interior space within compact exterior dimensions. The original Fiat 600 Multipla, introduced in 1956, could accommodate six people in a vehicle measuring around 3.5 metres. The second-generation Multipla, launched in 1998, featured six seats arranged across two rows in a body less than four metres long.

With the Multiplay, Fiat revisits this philosophy through a more adaptable architecture that combines passenger accommodation with flexible cargo capacity. The concept was presented by Olivier Franois, Company Strategic Advisor for Stellantis, and Arnaud Belloni, CEO of the Fiat, Abarth and Lancia brands and Chief Marketing Officer for Europe.

While Fiat has not announced plans to put the Multiplay into production, the concept offers a glimpse into the brand’s exploration of adaptable vehicle layouts, multifunctional interiors and space-efficient mobility solutions.
