IPS officer Y Puran Kumar Suicide: Senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar committed suicide on Tuesday. He held the post of ADGP (Additional Director General of Police). He shot himself at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh. Before carrying out the incident, he had instructed all the security personnel to leave the premises. After this he went to the basement and committed suicide by sitting on a chair.

1- Y Puran Kumar shot himself with his service revolver in the basement of his private house in Sector 11, Chandigarh. The room where he committed suicide was sound proof. The voice inside him did not go out. The incident occurred around 1:30 pm on Tuesday. The body was found by his daughter.
2- Puran Kumar’s wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, was on an official visit to Japan with a delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. She can return to India by Wednesday morning.
3- Police have not found any suicide note from the spot. It is not clear why the IPS officer took such a fatal step. Police are working on every possible angle. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
4- A team of CFSL (Central Forensic Science Laboratory) has visited the spot. CFSL people have collected possible evidence. The investigating officers are focusing on forensic and ballistic evidence.
5- Chandigarh Police has interrogated the policemen and family members present in the house at the time of the incident.
6- Puran Kumar was recently transferred to the Police Training Center in Sunaria, Rohtak. This is the area of Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
7- Why Puran Kumar committed suicide has not been confirmed yet. Police are examining his personal belongings and mobile phone. It is expected that information will be available in this regard.
8- Chandigarh Police has sent the body for postmortem. The postmortem report will provide information about the cause of death.
9- Police officers and administration have expressed grief over the sudden demise of Puran Kumar. He has been described as an honest officer. His service record has been excellent.
10-Investigating agencies are considering both professional stress and personal factors as possible reasons for this incident. Forensic report and family statement may reveal major information in this regard in the coming days.
