Shikhar Mohan scored 143 runs off 196 balls to become the first centurion of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season for Jharkhand, drawing attention to his growing talent in domestic cricket.
Shikhar Mohan Ranji Trophy 2026-27: Shikhar Mohan is making headlines in Indian domestic cricket after scoring the first century of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season. The 21-year-old left-handed batter scored 143 runs off 196 balls against Kerala at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur. His innings helped Jharkhand make a strong start to their campaign.
Shikhar Mohan’s Century and Cricket Journey
Jharkhand chose to bat first, and Mohan built a good opening partnership with Sharandeep Singh, who scored 33 runs. Mohan then added 163 runs for the second wicket with Utkarsh Singh, who made 71. Mohan was finally dismissed by Vaisakh Chandran in the 71st over, seven runs short of his 150.
At the time of the original report, Jharkhand were at 495/5 after 161 overs. Captain Virat Singh was unbeaten on 102 while Aditya Chandresh Singh had also scored an unbeaten 120. Both batters had reached their centuries.
Mohan comes from Doranda in Ranchi. His father, Suraj, took him to the Ranchi Cricket Academy when he was around six years old. He went on to perform well at Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 levels.
In the 2023-24 Col CK Nayudu Trophy for Under-23 players, he scored 623 runs with two centuries and three half-centuries. He followed it up with 887 runs in the next season.
In his first Ranji Trophy season, Mohan scored 613 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 56.03. His best performance included a 207 against Nagaland in just his third appearance. Former India spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has called him a “long-term prospect”.
Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup Performances
Mohan also played an important role for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final. He scored 85 and 52 in the two innings as East Zone won the title after 13 years by beating South Zone. He later scored 60 for Rest of India against Jammu and Kashmir in the Irani Trophy while playing under Rishabh Pant.

Mohan credits senior players Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant for helping him learn the game and handle pressure.
“Ishan (Kishan) bhaiya has been very helpful in my career. Whenever he joins the team for Ranji or Vijay Hazare matches, he brings a very positive mindset and shares his top-level experience, advising what to do and not to do in specific situations,” Mohan told TOI.
“Even during the Duleep Trophy final, he guided me on which shots to play on that pitch. Then in the Irani Cup, I had the privilege of playing under Rishabh (Pant) bhaiya. He shared his perspective on handling match situations, reading the game under pressure, and how to stay mentally composed,” added the southpaw.
