Sohum Shah-starrer cult horror film ‘Tumbbad’ completed eight years on Monday, with actress Alia Bhatt joining the celebrations through a special social media post.
The ‘Jigra’ actress took to Instagram Stories to share a selfie wearing a special eye mask bearing the words, “So Jaa Warna Hastar Aa Jayega”, a memorable reference associated with the film.
Wishing the team on the milestone, Alia wrote, “Happy 8 years to the entire #Tumbbad team (sic),” accompanied by a devil emoji.
Sohum Shah responded to her post, writing, “Looks like Hastar has a new favourite! Thank you @aliabhatt” (sic).
Alia confirmed in July this year that she would be part of the second instalment of the ‘Tumbbad’ franchise. She will join Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the sequel.
Welcoming Alia to the film, Sohum shared a post announcing her inclusion, with the caption, “A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to #Tumbbad2, @aliaabhatt #PralayAayega.” He also shared a few pictures with the ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ actress.
Expressing her excitement about entering the mysterious world of ‘Tumbbad’, Alia said in a statement that the film had stayed with her since she first watched it.
“Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people’s imagination years after they’ve released. That’s what makes this opportunity so exciting,” she said.
She added that becoming part of the film’s world was incredibly special and expressed her eagerness to work with Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, whom she has admired for a long time.
Alia also said she looked forward to exploring a character in a story as rich, mysterious and unforgettable as ‘Tumbbad’, adding that she could not wait for audiences to experience what the team was creating.
Released on October 12, 2018, ‘Tumbbad’ has carved out a special place in the hearts of cinema lovers with its distinctive blend of horror, mythology and folklore.
