What was the matter? The incident occurred today when a 71-year-old lawyer suddenly threw a shoe at CJI Gawai during the Supreme Court hearing, causing chaos in the court room. The lawyer was immediately taken into custody. While taking out of the court room, he shouted and said, “India will not tolerate insult to Sanatan Dharma.”
The incident took place a few weeks after CJI Gawai’s comment, in which he allegedly made a controversial remarks, hearing a petition related to the restoration of the damaged Vishnu statue in Madhya Pradesh, “Go and ask the deity yourself.” He was widely criticized after this comment.
