Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has lauded Manchester City’s impressive 3-0 Liverpool at Anfield.
This win comes at a time when the club faces serious allegations of financial misconduct in the Premier League.
Under the leadership of Enzo Maresca, the team showcased exceptional performance across all areas of play. Their display was so commanding that even the home fans at Anfield fell silent. With this victory, City maintained their outstanding form, marking their sixth consecutive win in the league. Historically, Anfield has not been a favorable venue for Manchester City, but this victory marks their second consecutive win at this stadium, following a 2-1 victory earlier in February. This achievement also signifies the first time since January 1953 that City has secured back-to-back league wins at Liverpool’s home ground.
Neville commented on Sky Sports, “Winning at Anfield is incredibly challenging. The players and staff of Manchester City were celebrating together. Liverpool fans were chanting, ‘You’re going down,’ giving a sense of the match atmosphere. While we cannot predict City’s future, we cannot overlook the magnificent performance by Enzo Maresca and his players.”
Last month, the Premier League’s independent commission found Manchester City guilty of 115 serious financial misconduct charges. As a result, the club faces the threat of significant point deductions or even relegation. However, City has firmly denied these allegations and plans to appeal the decision promptly.
Neville noted, “This was my first match watching Manchester City since the allegations surfaced a few weeks ago. I mentioned that it would be best for me to stay away from their matches until a decision is made. We should celebrate the victory without any burdens on our minds. The performances of Ruben Dias, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Elliot Anderson were exceptional. At the end of the match, you can’t help but think that if the verdict confirms guilt, the club could face serious challenges ahead.”
