Indian bowlers defend 223 successfully to reclaim series lead
Bouncing back from a crushing defeat in Ranchi, the Indian cricket team secured a 14-run victory against the West Indies at Indore’s Holkar Stadium to take a 2-1 lead in their five-match T20I series.
Captain Shreyas Iyer saw his bowling unit step up brilliantly to defend a total of 223, restricting the visitors to 209 for seven.
Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma launched a fierce assault on the Caribbean bowlers early in the innings. Reaching his half-century in merely 18 deliveries, Sharma ultimately blasted 69 runs from 30 balls, while Kishan offered rapid support with an 18-ball 37. Their 108-run stand drove the hosts to 100 in just over seven overs, raising hopes of another monumental score. However, Shamar Springer triggered a middle-order collapse that restricted the scoring rate.
Determined to avoid another late slip, the hosts struck early through Arshdeep Singh, who removed danger man Hope in the second over. Shimron Hetmyer and Kamil Pooran briefly threatened with a swift 60-run partnership, but Naman Dhir halted their momentum by dismissing both batters. Fresh faces Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prince Yadav maintained strict control during the middle and death overs, preventing any easy boundaries. Returning for his final spell, Arshdeep executed precise yorkers to dismiss Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul in quick succession. Despite Springer’s fiery late cameo of 35 from 11 balls, the damage was done, and India walked away with a series-leading win on a batting-friendly surface.
