New Delhi: New Zealand on Sunday announced their ODI squad for their upcoming five-match series against India. and New Zealand will lock horns in a five-match rubber, starting November 04. A five-match T20I series will precede the ODI series before the two teams lock horns in two Tests to conclude the tour.
Star batters Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman returned to the side as announced their ODI squad for the India series on Sunday. The duo will skip the T20I series against the visitors due to injuries.
Mitchell Santner is set to lead New Zealand in the ODI series as New Zealand head coach Rob Walter named an expanded 21-member squad for the five-match rubber. Santner is one of the only six cricketers who have been named in the squad for the entire ODI series.
Eight other players are set to feature in the first three matches before leaving the squad to prepare for the two Test matches against the visitors. Seven cricketers have been named in the squad for the last two ODIs. Ravindra was ruled out of the T20I series against India after dislocating his shoulder.
Meanwhile, Chapman was sidelined from the T20I series owing to a hamstring injury. However, both have been named in the ODI squad and are expected to feature in the five-match series. Meanwhile, New Zealand have also included the trio of Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Lockie Ferguson for the last two ODIs.
The trio has not played for New Zealand in ODIs for the last 18 months as they continue to prioritise franchise T20 leagues around the globe. However, the trio is set to get a shot at earning a place in New Zealand’s squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup by featuring in the India series.
“We are incredibly lucky to have the depth that we do to have 21 players involved in the series. It is also great to bring guys like Lockie, Finn and Tim back into the one-day unit,” Walter said.
“For Finn and Tim in particular, we have seen what they can do in the T20 arena and it is now a great opportunity for them to push their case in the longer format,” he added.
